• Introduction, historic background and the uses of shellac
• Introduction to polishing substances
• Introduction to polishing technique
• Creating an polishing example (base coat, build coat and top coat), individual supervision

Study outcome
Upon completion of the course, students will:
• have an overview of the uses of polish and its historic background;
• be familiar with different wood polishing techniques;
• be familiar with the possibilities of different shellac types and their uses;
• be able to detect shellac based polishing on antique furniture;
• have an overview of the environmental requirements established for polishing works;
• know how to prepare the materials and tools for polishing;
• be familiar with the different stages of shellac polishing (base coat, build coat, top coat);
• be familiar with the safety rules when working with chemicals.
