General description
The lectures are built around the types of sculpture. Every lecture compares the examples of figurative sculpture according to the history of sculpture from the Stone Age to the Contemporary Age and gives an emphasis to the object analysis according to different contemporary analytical methods (in particular, the formalistic, iconographic and feminist methods).
Study outcome
Upon completion of the course, students will:
• be familiar with the history of figurative sculpture from the Stone Age to the Contemporary Age;
• be familiar with the characteristics and developments of different historical types of figurative sculpture through the examples of round plastics and relief: portrait/bust, full figure and figurative composition/group;
• comprehend the specifics of monumental sculpture, figurative sculpture and miniature sculpture through the examples of contemporary figurative sculpture;
• be inspired to use the comparative method in the analysis of single works and in the integral sculpture works of different eras and artists;
• be able to use contemporary art analytical methods in working in the field of sculpture (in particular, the formalistic, iconographic and feminist methods).
• be able to see and analyse the form, mass, proportions, colour/tone, facture, rhythm and other specific characteristics of the sculpture piece from the formalistic perspective;
• be able to open the topic and meaning of sculpture works in the context of era from the iconographic perspective;
• be able to see different presentation styles and ideologies of gender specifics according to the history of figurative sculpture from the perspective of the history of figurative sculpture.
