| General description |
The nature of the work depends on the specific object. Introduction to the object’s documentation and during the restoration works, a restoration program confirmed by the National heritage Board will be followed.
• Technologies and methodologies, e.g. dry cleaning, wet surface cleaning, fixing the paint layer, plastering losses, retouching;
• Methods to reduce damages;
• Different presentation practices of wall paintings.
• Application of reconstruction techniques.
• Frameworks regarding the wallpapers in the historic layers. |

| Study outcome |
Upon completion of the course, students will:
• be familiar with the problems regarding cleaning a surface, and be able to conduct necessary tests and prepare necessary solvents;
• perform the painting’s dry cleaning with appropriate methods (e.g. with a brush, sponge, vacuum cleaner), while considering the object’s condition;
• perform the painting’s wet surface cleaning in order to remove dirt, varnish or overpaintings, while considering the object’s condition and used techniques;
• be familiar with the fixing materials necessary for both base and cover surface, and be skilful in applying them and selecting a necessary technique;
• reinforce the detaching paint layer with a preventive treatment;
• carry out the customary structural repair-works on the surface of the painting board, by reinforcing the board’s structure through adding necessary adhesives and fixing smaller plaster, stone/tile and wooden losses;
• have acquired the basic skills to conserve a wallpaper;
• be familiar with the reconstruction techniques necessary for interior paintings;
• be familiar with the contemporary conservation philosophies; |
