General description
• the evolution of fashion photography;
• fashion photography as an indicator of values in society; apparel, "taste" and moral norms;
• the semantics and significatory space of fashionable clothing; reflecting and entrenching value systems;
• working with models; opening up the models and "tuning" them for fashion photography.
• creating space and psychological atmosphere in fashion photography;
• imitating and surpassing the historic styles when learning fashion photography;
• the origin of the elements in staged fashion photography: theatre, painting, cinema; the specific character of staged fashion photography;
• the applications of fashion photography;
• creating original fashion photographs.
Study outcome
On successful completion of this course the students should be able to:

• have diverse knowledge of the historical and contemporary practice of staged fashion photography;
• know the different applications of fashion photography;
• work with models in open air and in the studio; to use props and accessories;
• direct the facial expressions, gesticulation and poses involved in fashion photography;
• the semantics of apparel, especially its significatory space in picturel representations;
• differentiate between the styles involved in independent creative work and that of the dominant commercial style;
• create an effective artwork within the genre or by creatively trespassing the borders of the genre.
