General description
• the history and evolution of film editing: Kuleshov and the Kuleshov effect, Eisenstein and other Russian avant-garde directors as the pioneers of film editing;
• linear and non-linear (digital) film editing; the technological development from the early days to the present; PAL, NTSC, 4/3, 16/9, HD;

• managing the material: working with timeline, frame rate, transition (cut, fade-in, fade-out etc.), titles; the principles of color correction;
• sountrack, film sound
• project completion, video export, writing a DVD;
Study outcome
On successful completion of this course the students should be able to:

• have basic knowledge of non-linear film editing;
• have basic knowledge of film editing software;
• structure filmed material into an effective whole;
• work with the interrelations of image, sound and narrative voice;
• combine information expressed in different sign systems into an organic whole;
• perceives the differences and similarities between the means of cinema and photography;
• can combine the means of cinema and photography and create shorter works, e.g. photo films.
