General description
• Overview about the development of the professional leather art in Estonia in the beginning of the 20th century. Eduard Taska, Adamson-Eric, Adele Reindorff.
• Estonian leather art in the 1940s and 1950s.
• Estonian leather art in the 1960 and 1970.
• The development of Estonian leather art in the last decades of the 20th century.
• The development of leather and binding art in Europe in the 20th century;
• Art Deco in French binding art.
• English and German binding art in the 20th century.
Aim
The objective is to provide students with the basic knowledge about the development of leather and binding art in the 20th century.
Study outcome
Upon completion of this course, students will:
• have a complete overview about the development of Estonian leather and binding art in the 20th century;
• be familiar with the developments of leather and binding art in Europe in the 20th century;
• be familiar with the specialty-related terminology and analyse the works of the leather and binding artists from that period from the perspective of the developments of material, form and technologies.
• be able to determine the style of the objects or the object's belonging to a certain era based on their acquired knowledge;
• be aware of the most well-known leather artists and masters of binding.
• promote the discussion and/or express their thoughts in writing based on their acquired knowledge;
• be able to use different sources to find professional information.
