| General description |
• Finding the sources for inspiration and sketching first ideas.
• Selecting the best ideas and developing them further.
• Analysing the function and constructional solution of the product being under design.
• Completing plans and presenting them as a maquette or surface compositions.
• Preparing a maquette and constructing patterns.
• Selecting suitable materials, decorative elements and fittings.
• Practical work:
- Carrying out the chosen best idea in material.
- analysing the suitability of the materials;
- solving problems regarding the technologies;
- using performance and finishing techniques. |

| Aim |
| The objective is to to design an original handbag, shoulder bag or backpack, by selecting a natural or artificial form for the inspirational source. The result will be an original accessory that will be surprising both for its design and functional solution. |

| Study outcome |
Upon completion of the course, students will:
• analyse the visual and functional possibilities of design nowadays;
• be familiar with the principles of a user-oriented design and know how to take the user's needs into consideration during the design process;
• be capable of creating original conceptual designs with novel solutions and presenting them correctly;
• be familiar with modern materials as well as the technical basis;
• be able to find and select the materials and techniques suitable for carrying out the idea, construct the patterns and prepare the maquettes necessary for the preparatory work;
• be able to calculate the material costs, working time and product price;
• be able to find a complete functional solution to their ideas and carry it out in practice;
• be able to synthesise new interesting design solutions by combining different technologies;
• have the basic knowledge about the specifics of leather and be able to find the suitable one;
• be familiar with the techniques of creating composition characteristic to the product and apply it in practice;
• be capable of developing a technical solution suitable for the composition and carry out in practice.
• be able to clearly justify their choices. |
