Aim

1. Provide high-quality professional higher education in the field of leather art along with opportunities for specialisation in design or restoration.
2. Educate the next generation of specialists and/or creative artists who boast independent thinking and decision-making ability and adaptability.
3. Promote the acquisition of varied professional knowledge and skills and encourage the development of artistic creativity and individuality.
4. Prepare students for moving into post-graduate studies as well as for life-long learning and continuous self-development in other ways.
5. Integrate the speciality areas within the curriculum from accessory design to the art of bookbinding and restoration, which is unprecedented in terms of teaching leather crafting.

Study options

General module, module of specialty subjects and practical module: compulsory.
Module of elective and optional subjects: it is compulsory to select one of the two elective sets of general subjects (cf. curriculum modules).
Optional subjects can be selected from the subjects offered by Pallas and by other higher education institutions

Specialty modules: It is compulsory to select between the specialty module of design and conservation/restoration.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the curriculum, students will:
- comprehend the principles of leather art and restoration, their functional mechanisms and functions in society;
- comprehend the implementing mechanisms of culture;
- be able to understand the most important aspects in the history of the specialty and implement this knowledge in carrying out innovative ideas;
- be able to collect, select, analyse and assess critically the specialty-related information and use theoretical knowledge in practice;
- be able to generate creative ideas and have the courage to experiment regarding the technology and conception;
- be able to consciously select and use the suitable materials and techniques;
- comprehend and apply the communication process between an designer/restorer and client;
- be tolerant towards different cultures, attitudes and values;
- be socially and ethically sensitive intervene in the civil processes with their professional means, if needed;
- have the skills of organisation and planning and be initiative and responsible in working individually and in teams;
- use their native language and at least one foreign language orally as well as in writing in discussing the specialty-related problems;
- be competent in working as a designer of accessories and bindings, stylist, art administrator or restorer of bindings, objects and paper;
- be capable of adapting in new situations and ready for a life-long learning
