General description

• Introduction into video editing
• Basic concepts and rules of traditional narrative editing
• Different video standards and frame rates
• Review of Adobe Premiere editing software
• Transitions and effects used in editing
• Sound and picture consistency. Rhythm and tempo
• Sound editing and processing capabilities in Adobe Premiere program
• Creating and using titling in Adobe Premiere program
• Animation capabilities of video effects
• Practical editing exercises with the provided material
• Theory of colour correction
• Using the colour correction tools in Adobe Premiere program
• Editing speech and music, audio levels
• Planning the editing of the selected video project and using the techniques based on the plan
• Independent work, based on teacher recommendations for improving the edit
• Defending their work in front of the board

Aim

The objective is to give the students the knowledge of the theory of video editing and practical skills in video editing software in order to achieve readiness to carry out independent creative projects.

Study outcome

Upon completion of the course, students will:
1. know the basic concepts and rules of editing;
2. be able to use a video editing program Adobe Premiere on a basic level;
3. be able to edit the provided video and audio material into a creative outcome;
4. know how and when to use the editing transitions and effects;
5. be able to complete a project into a final product (titles, sound, moving image, graphics);
6. know a variety of video standards and methods of compressing, be able to choose between them, and save their work in various formats;
7. be able to use the editing software for the realisation of their idea;
8. be able to do colour corrections;
9. be able to edit the video sound, music and speech;
10. be able to take into account the peculiarities of the selected project editing.
