The role of chemistry in the chemical processes of conservation and restoration. The principles of chemistry in the conduct of practical conservation projects. The structure of atoms and periodic table. The structure of substances and chemical bond. The speed and balance of chemical reactions. The main classes of inorganic compounds. Organic matter. Solutions. Chemical decomposition.

Aim

To explain the main principles of chemistry which are necessary for the practical conservation projects. To provide an overview of the structure of substances, their chemical reactions and classes of materials.

 comprehend the basics of restoration chemistry;

 be familiar with the main information sources of conservation chemistry.
