General description

An overview of cultural heritage and its preservation principles. The development of restoration and conservation, reasons and social background. Thorough overview of contemporary conservation theories and their connection to the practical conservation process. The course will additionally focus on the professional ethics and its practical application, and possible upcoming problems.

Aim

To provide the basic knowledge of the methods, challenges and legislation related to the protection of cultural heritage.
To provide an overview of the history and theoretical and practical trends of restoration and conservation, including the contemporary conservation principles and professional ethics

Upon completion, students will:
 be familiar with the essence of cultural heritage and the preservation principles of cultural properties;
 be aware and conscious of the challenges related to the protection of cultural heritage;
 be aware of the main developments in the history of restoration and conservation;
 an overview of the contemporary conservation theories.;
 be able to use the acquired theory in solving the specific conservation tasks;
 be aware of the main principles of professional ethics and their application;
 be able to find additional information related to this subject;
