General description

• Historical overview and examples from nowadays: reliquary, jewel casket, chest, sculptural decoration object etc.
• Analysing the application possibilities of chests.
• Designing leather chest and decorative objects.
• Finding solutions to spatial and volumetric design problems.
• Combining together the functionality and form.
• Practical work. Leather chest and decorative object.
- Analysing the suitability of materials;
- Solving problems regarding the technologies;
- Using performance and finishing techniques.

Aim

The objective is to provide theoretical and practical skills in order to design a form character based on the concrete subject. Develop spatial thinking and perception of proportions. The cycle combines the design of leather chests and objects, the analysis of technological possibilities and practical work.

Study outcome

Upon completion of the course, students will:
• analyse the application possibilities of chests nowadays;
• generate creative ideas and find solutions to the spatial and volumetric design problems;
• take the functionality of the object and its expressiveness of form into consideration during the design process;
• be able to create a complete solution to the design while understanding the specifics and interaction of materials;
• be able to solve the problems of materials, construction and finishing;
• be able to find a complete functional solution to their ideas and carry it out in practice;
• be able to present their works and justify their choices.
