Theoretical part
• Most important types of paper and their qualities.
• Main paper damages and their causing factors.
• The principles of conservation/restoration of prints.
• Preservation requirements for prints.
Practical parts
• Assessing the condition of a print.
• Selecting and suitable restoration/conservation method.
• Selecting necessary tools and materials and preparing the work station according to the methodology.
• Carrying out practical restoration/conservation works.
• Preparing guidelines for documentation and preservation.

Study outcome

Upon completion of the course, students will:
• be familiar with different paper materials and their qualities;
• be able to identify different paper damages;
• select a suitable restoration method based on the character of the object, paper and damages;
• perform practical conservation/restoration works based on the chosen method;
• create a documentation for the works done.
