• be able to differentiate most common wood species; • be familiar with the characteristics of wood: strength, the characteristics of cross grain and long grain, processing characteristics etc; • be familiar with different wood based raw materials; • know what hand tool to use and when to use is; • know how to prepare most common wood stains; • be familiar with the characteristics of different wood stains and varnishes; • be able to choose chemically compatible finishing substances; • be familiar with the possibilities for personal protection during health hazardous finishing works.
