General description

• Maintaining and cleaning polychromic objects
• Detecting and analyzing finishing layers’ stability and composition
• Most common damage factors of polychromic objects, their causes and analyze
• Typical damages and the mapping of their extent
• Stabilizing the breakaway polychromic finishing
• Authentic finishing and retouching
• Reconstruction of polychromic finishing

Study outcome

Upon completion of the course, students will:
• be able to detect the technical condition and finishing of an object;
• be able to prepare the material necessary for detecting the finishing and to map the tests;
• be able to analyze preparations in different lighting conditions and detect finishing materials;
• be able to stabilize finishing layers and retouch them, if necessary;
• be able to reconstruct polychromic surface finishes using traditional techniques.
