General description• basic knowledge of the invention and evolution of the photographic medium;
• the relationship between the formation of photography and that of art, journalism and other neighboring disciplines; • systematic knowledge of the role of photography in society and in the history of society; • defining the representational, economical, political and ideological limits of photography; • the amalgamation of the disciplinary and interdisciplinary histories of the photographic medium; • finding subject-specific information online and in print; • the study of subject-specific audiovisual material; • keeping up with the subject-specific sources and academic events; • identifying and perceiving the borders of photography's synchronic and diachronic roles in the culture discourse; Study outcomeOn successful completion of this course the students should be able to:
• know the fundamentals of the technological, historical and aesthetic evolution of the medium; • know the basics of the evolution of the medium in the economico-political context; • distinguish the medium specific, general artistic and cultural characteristics of the photographic medium; • analytically research the local and international topics of the history of photography; • write surveys, reviews, summaries and studies on the subject matter.
