Subject 'Professional English'

• English as the most widespread international language of communication in contemporary photography;
• professionally precise terminology and expression;
• communicative skills in multicultural/-linguistic world
• learning the usage of medium specific English by the translation/analysis and verbal presentation of texts;
• tests and exercises;
• language seminars on specific themes, based on prepared material;
• generating, writing, editing and analyzing a medium specific text in English;
• translating medium specific texts from Estonian to English and vice versa;
• writing a course paper — a medium specific article/text in English.

On successful completion of the subject students should be able to:
• understand the need for and the application possibilities of English language in professional creative practice;
• understand, translate and express themselves in English in their line of work;
• write texts necessitated by their speciality (portfolio, artist statement, CV, etc) in English;
• be familiar with the resources (dictionaries, glossaries) for better translation and communication;
• be critical of their language use, and continue to improve it.
