General description• the object of photography theories and the different ways of it's articulation;
• essentialist and functionalist photography theories; • the interpretive operations of photographic analysis; • the interpretive methods of photographic analysis; • poly-, inter- and dedisciplinary methods of photographic analysis; • the limitations of art theories in the analysis of photographic medium; Study outcomeOn successful completion of this course the students should be able to:
• have a basic understanding of the ways general cultural, art and medium specific theories can be applied to photographic analysis; • know the main types of contexts necessary for the theorization of photographs; • know one's way around in different methods of analysis; • combine different methods of analysis and theorization; • perform a reflexive analysis; • know the most important methods of theorization used in the neighboring disciplines (cinema, advertising, journalism).
