General description• photographic composition as a means to bind different expressive elements and create meaning;
• the main concepts of photographic composition (abstract-concrete, real-unreal, symmetric-asymmetric, balanced-unbalanced, dynamic-static) and their use; • connecting composition and photo-technical elements of expression/photo-technical possibilities • connecting the emotional and the social as general expressive modes to the end result/photograph • solving practical tasks by combining compositional elements and previously studied elements of expression; • the social and aesthetic dimensions of communication • critical assessment and analysis of the work • seminars Study outcomeOn successful completion of this course the students should be able to:
• understand the specificity and the rules of composition in photography and can use this in the process of creating meaning; • use the methods of photo composition to achieve expressive results; • perceive different approaches to achieve a compositionally holistic end result; • construct a well composed photographic space; • reach an end result where the author, the photograph and the viewer are all part of a comprehensible communicative whole; • critically assess the conditional-meaningful, compositionally expressed photographic space.
