General description

• the historical evolution of nude photography;
• nude photography as a field full of taboos; bodily nudity and moral norms;
• the semantics and significatory space of pictorial nudity;
• working with models; making the models to open up and "tuning" models for the staging of nude photographs;
• creating the space and the psychological atmosphere in nude photography;
• imitating the historical styles as a study method in nude photography;
• the origin of nude photography elements: theatre, painting, cinema; the specific character of nude photography;
• the genres of the staged nude: nude-portrait, commercial nude, nude-design, nudism, glamour, etc;
• the applications of nude photography.

Study outcome

On successful completion of this course the students should be able to:

• have diverse knowledge of the use of the nude in the past and in contemporary photography;
• know the main applications of nude photography;
• work with models in open air and in the studio; to use props and accessories; confidently manage the expressions, gestures and poses involved in nude photography;
• understand the semantic of nudity, especially its significations in image based representations;
• distinguish the styles of independent creative practice from commercial stylistics;
• create an effective artwork within the genre or by creatively trespassing the borders of the genre.
