General description• Short introduction into relief printing (linocut), examples;
• Linocut as a relief printing technique, tools and materials; • Designing the draft on a given topic taking into account the possibilities of relief printing (linocut). Different cutting techniques; • Printing materials; • Conveying the draft into linocut, printing. Work modes. AimThe objective is to acquire basic and main theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in relief printing. Exploring the working principles of relief printing. Skills to use the acquired knowledge of relief printing technique in other media and to tie them together. Developing the practical manual skill of drawing and valuing the specific outcome through the printing process. Developing independent creative thinking and exploring the opportunities to implement relief printing into future work in the field of graphic design.
Study outcomeUpon completion of the course, students will:
1. have basic knowledge of relief printing; 2. be able to use relief printing techniques in a creative and personalized manner in book design, illustrations and posters, combining the designs; 3. be able to tie acquired knowledge and skills to digital painting; 4. be able to use the relief printing technique and tie it to graphic design; 5. have significantly supplemented one’s profession-specific knowledge in the field of jointly implementing different techniques (free graphics and communication design).
