General description• Short introduction into etching, examples;
• Etching as print making technique, tools and materials; • Designing the draft (“Self-portrait”) taking into account the possibilities of etching. Principles and techniques of drawing a portrait; • Printing materials; • Conveying the draft into etching, biting, printing. Work modes. AimThe objective is to acquire basic and main theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in etching. Exploring the working principles of etching as a print making technique. Skills to use the acquired knowledge of etching technique in other media and to tie them together. Developing the practical manual skill of drawing and valuing the specific outcome through the printing process. Developing independent creative thinking and exploring the opportunities to implement etching into future work in the field of graphic design.
Study outcomeUpon completion of the course, students will:
1. have basic knowledge of etching; 2. be able to use etching techniques in a creative and personalized manner in book design, illustrations and posters, combining the designs; 3. be able to tie acquired knowledge and skills to digital painting; 4. be able to use the etching technique and tie it to graphic design; 5. have significantly supplemented one’s profession-specific knowledge in the field of jointly implementing different techniques (free graphics and communication design).
