Subject 'Colour Management'Name in Estonian: Värvihaldus
General description• Colour, light
• Visual process • Colour anomalies • Colour models • Measuring equipment • Components of colour management • Colour management settings and configuration in design programs • Calibration - profiling • Practical colour management: monitor • Converting between different colour spaces • Print simulation, clean proof AimThe objective is to provide an idea about the essence of colours, in other words, what is a colour, how people perceive colours and the anomalies related to colour perception; provide information about different colour models and their interrelations (RGB vs CMYK vs LAB) and colour measurements; explain the need for colour management and its working principles; provide the knowledge about how to obtain and preserve the right colours throughout the whole working process until the (printing) product is completed; provide the skills to configure the colour management settings of the design programs according to the needs of the product.
Study outcomeUpon completion of the course, students will:
• have an overview of the essence of colours and the requirement for colour management; • be able to adjust programs, calibrate monitors and use colour profiles; • be able to configure the colour management settings of design programs according to the working process; • understand to which colour models the final product needs to correspond; • be able to convert files from the source colour space to the desired colour space; • be able to address the upcoming problems related to colours (client-designer-printing house); • be able to complete and test the printing by using a clean proof.
