Lotman and School of Tartu-Moskva • Additional perspectives AimThe objective is to introduce semiotics as a scientific discipline, provide an overview of the main theoretical concepts and idealogical directions and to encourage independent analysis of art works by using semiotic approaches.
Study outcomeUpon completion of the course, students will:
1. comprehend the objective of semiotics as a scientific discipline; 2. have a brief overview of terminology and methods; 3. know the necessary thought models to describe different cultures and cultural objects; 4. be able to analyse a single object in culture and entire processes, by finding and showing their connections; 5. be able to describe cultural objects, irrespective of their form (visual arts, cinematography, sound etc). 6. Be able to assess critically their own creations and understand the potential meanings of a creative process in different cultures. Is taught in following curricula2015: 2272 2013: 2272
