General description• introduction: what is installation?
• the history of installation: Gesamtkunstwerk, total art, etc; • relations between objects and their spatial configurations; • the technicality of installative art: mechanics, electronics, light and sound technology; • achieving a coherent whole in installation art: elements and integrating elements; • narrative dimension in installation art; • interactive dimension in installation art; • the characteristics of viewer participation in installation art and when looking at photographs; AimTo learn to articulate expression by configuring photographs and photographic arrays into spatial forms and constellations.
Study outcomeOn successful completion of this course the students should be able to:
• have an overview of photo arrays that are expressively articulated in a space; • know when there is need to amplify the expressive power of photo arrays in a space; • assess the interrelation between photographs and other components in an installation; • understand the semantics of installation; • creatively surpass the purely decorative dimensions of installations; • innovately configure photographs and other installation components.
